Godspeed.
Godspeed comes from the Middle English expression “God spede (you)”, a wish for success and fortune for one setting out on an enterprise, voyage, adventure, or travels. It may also mean good luck. It’s also a song by Radney Foster, made popular by the Dixie Chicks. And with a boy on the way, it has become my inspiration for the next 4 1/2 months as I prepare for my...

Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails...
Full disclosure: I don’t know what a snip is, but apparently, according to an old English nursery rhyme, it is a key ingredient in the makeup of all little boys, including my unborn son. IT’S A BOY! On Tuesday, with Laura’s parents present, our OB/GYN, Dr. Phillips, pointed to an indistinguishable blur on a sonogram screen indicating the most key ingredient in making a little...

Things to Remember
While I want most of these posts to be interesting to friends and family, I have decided to also use this as a space for me to post helpful ideas I want to remember throughout the pregnancy. So, unless you are pregnant (or really bored), you can tune out…now. I got an email from BabyCenter today featuring the “5 things you should do before giving birth.” A couple are pretty...

Jay is going to be a daddy, and we're pretty sure...
Here is the official announcement! Jay and I are going to be parents. Scared? Shocked? Excited? Lost? Amazed? Yup…all of the above plus much more! And this is only the beginning… Head, shoulders, knees and toes…about 2.5 inches long at the moment. Due June 18th!

Holiday Sing-Along
We went and sang Christmas carols at the Capital with the Colombo’s last night. Such a fun sentence. Each year, Austin holds the Holiday Sing-Along & Downtown Stroll. Christmas carols are led by KUT’s John Aielli at the steps of the Capital, the Capital tree is lit and Congress is full of music, art & shopping. It’s a family tradition for the Colombos, and for the...

The Year of 30 - Happy Birthday, Jennifer!*
Thank you, Butler Hall! If not for that dormitory (and Brooke & Jennifer getting stuck at a red light together), I would have one less reason to live in Austin and one less very best friend! Thank you, Jennifer…for being the first to penetrate the circle (and proving that it can be done). And despite what Brooke says, I am a pretty nice person. Happy 30th, friend! And with that said,...

Yea!! Brooke is old(er than me)!!
Oh, Brooke Ashley Green Hockensmith…the memories behind these pictures (and the 1500 that aren’t included here) are what made junior high, high school, college and well, the last 18 years, the best times ever. I can’t even pick my favorite year (or decade for that matter). Thanks for everything…and for never acting your age. Because that would just be boring… One...

Dutchstache
It’s playoff time for your Texas Rangers!! So, here is a little something to hold you over until 4:07. (Click on the picture below.) What a goofball. And one of the many reasons I love this team. And…you can follow his mustache on Twitter.  But first…let’s get a win today with our blue (or red) glove wearin’ lefty! Have I mentioned that I love this team? Go...

All Day Date
Jay just started a new job (hmmm…should post about that) and we took the Friday before his first day off to enjoy our awesome city. We had all kinds of plans, but you can never squeeze in everything, so we got off to an early start and just played it by ear. So, let me tell you about our all day date in pictures (and words): 9:00am: Patika Coffee Trailer - After reading all of the awesome...

Perks of having super awesome talented friends
So, we haven’t done a post in awhile (need to fix that), but I had to put something up in order to show off our awesome new header that Brandy made for us! (Thanks, Brandy!!!!!) Here are the other three that we will probably just rotate between, since we love them all and can’t decide. Now she just needs to make 8 more and we will have one for every month of the year. Is that too much...

Holy Bats!!
The exit you take for our house is also the home to over a million bats and it is a close second in size to the bat colony under the Congress bridge. We see them all the time, but always find ourselves taking pictures like a bunch of tourists. Want to know more? Bats in Round Rock They can even be picked up on the Doppler Radar! Very cool. But they stink.

Summer Music Round Up: I like music. Do...
No? Well, tough cookies, chief, cause you’re getting some tunes today. I spent most of this long hot summer floating in bodies of water while imbibing various frosty beverages. All the while, playing in the background were a few new artists that I’ve recently discovered…in much the same way Columbus discovered America (Get it? Hint: he didn’t). So, below are a handful of...

What? No plans?!?
Ahhhh…the last few weekends have been so nice. We have had little to no plans (and we don’t count family in town as plans, since that is just as relaxing), so there has been a lot of this: and a lot of this: Heehee…I just love that dog. So, this post is just a little picture-heavy peek into how we spend our no-plans weekends. Enjoy! A Little Home Improvement We hung...

*Inspired By Pinterest
After looking at Pinterest and pinning things all day (and night), I started to think I should take a little bit of this inspiration and actually MAKE something. So after all the “pins” showing different jewelry storage, I got my own idea. This took a total of 2 hours and that included driving to Hobby Lobby (finding out they close at 8pm!) and then driving to Wal-Mart (gasp! I...

“If you don’t invest very much, then defeat doesn’t hurt very much and winning is not very exciting.” - Dick Vermeil There have been times during sporting events, usually during commercial breaks, time outs, at halftime, when I, having ceased my profanity laced tirade against whichever player, official or coach had earned the brunt of my vitriol that day, there have been...

The Head and the Heart
Loving, loving, loving them. Saw them at SXSW this year and they get better every time we listen to them. Enjoy! You can also follow Operation Every Band…she is tracking everything they do these days as part of one of her side projects. And has it really taken us this long to share some of our favorite finds from SXSW 2011?

How Richard Burton Got Me to Drink Tequila
So, Jay wrote this a long time ago and I JUST found his draft. I added the pictures and decided to post it. A year later. In 1964, MGM released The Night of the Iguana, an adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ tropical melo-drama about a defrocked priest at a beach hotel in Mexico. The film starred Richard Burton as the aforementioned priest and opened to critical acclaim, particularly for the...

Screams Summer
I made these the other day for a small crawfish boil (well, picked up boiled crawfish and brought them home) we had to kick off summer. Another Pinterest-inspired creation and it is SO easy. Buy waffle cones. Cut up fresh fruit. Put fresh fruit in the waffle cones. Tada! And they are so pretty… These aren’t as pretty, but they sure were good. Love. Summer.

Pinterested?
My mom found/gave me a set of Mr. and Mrs. chairs (one rocker, one straight legged) over a year ago and they definitely needed some work done. They were pretty old and needed quite a bit of woodwork done, since a few pieces had fallen off or were missing all together. Which is often the case with things my mom buys/finds on the side of the road*… So, we sent one of them off to Pappaw (THE...

Work (and Play) Trip to San Francisco
I got to go to San Francisco at the beginning of this month for a seminar hosted by my office. Since I had never been, I decided to stay a few extra days and invite my mom and Aunt Pat along. We did a lot of walking, ate a lot of seafood, drank a lot of wine and rode the trolley car every chance we got. It was a great time and I definitely want to go back with Jay sometime soon. I would...

Forget the Plant
So, it’s been awhile. 7 months tomorrow to be exact. Keeping up with a blog is hard… Jay told me a long time ago that before we got pregnant I had to keep a plant alive. Then we would graduate to a dog. Then a human being. We planted a lot of flowers last spring (see proof here) but, needless to say, they have all died. I blame the horribly cold Austin winters. Jay blames me. I plan...

Going Yard
The front yard, circa 2009-B.S. (Before Stacy) Anyone who’s been to our house knows that we’ve put a little bit of work into it. We’ve floored, painted or tiled in just about every room of the place and we’re pretty happy with how the projects have turned out. One feature of the house, however, has managed to evade our renovating grasp: the yard. There are a lot of reasons that it’s taken us so...

Better Late Than Never...
Back in March, Jay and I took off a couple of days and bought wristbands for SXSW. For those of you who live under a rock (kidding), SXSW is an interactive/film/music festival that is held in Austin every spring (see earlier post). So, here’s a little wrap-up with some of our favorites from the week. Wednesday Stood in line for a free, parking garage Broken Bells show. Jay got in, had...

It's Rollin' Round the Bend
Maybe it’s self delusion, but I fancy myself a get-along kind of guy. I avoid serious confrontation, I frequently defer to the wishes others and I can generally foster some sort of amicable relationship with people who have zero redeeming qualities whatsoever. I say “nice guy,” you say “doormat.” Po-tay-to, po-tah-to. However, there are two sitautions in which my...

Busy, busy, busy...
Funny how life gets in the way of writing about life…and the failure to upload my pictures from my camera. Not too sure why it is so hard for me to transfer my pictures from the camera to the computer, but it makes blog writing kind of hard (and boring for the readers) when I don’t have any pictures. So, with that said…here is what we have been up to: 1. I got a new car!!...
