Back in March, Jay and I took off a couple of days and bought wristbands for SXSW. For those of you who live under a rock (kidding), SXSW is an interactive/film/music festival that is held in Austin every spring (see earlier post).

So, here’s a little wrap-up with some of our favorites from the week.

Wednesday

• Stood in line for a free, parking garage Broken Bells show. Jay got in, had some free food and beer then came out because the show reached capacity with 5 people in front of me…bummer.
• Paste Magazine Party @ Galaxy Room: Free Energy! (very fun show!)

• Met up with Jennifer & Mike to have a few St. Patrick’s Day drinks!

  

• Brooklyn Vegan Party @ Club de Ville: Dawes (eh…not my favorite)
• Esther’s Follies: We figured we would be seeing a lot of music this week, so we decided to check out Nick Thune, a comedian that we first saw here. The show was great…and standing room only.
• Maggie Mae’s Gibson Room: Stopped here at the end of the night to see The Young Republic from Nashville. It was a wristband only venue, which was unfortunate, because the venue was empty. The Young Republic rocked it and put on an awesome show…for about 25 people. Pretty sad, but my short self could see perfectly!
• 

Thursday

• South Congress day makes us happy! 

• Yard Dog for free beer, cheap food and quite a few good shows…one in particular: The Rural Alberta Advantage

• Home Slice’s Music by the Slice for The Love Language

  

• Walking past Stubb’s towards Mohawk and we realized that there was NO line for that night’s show…The Soft Pack, Drive-By Truckers & Band of Horses. Walked right in, bought a couple beers and planted ourselves in front of the stage. WELL worth the pain in my back and feet by the end of the night…

Friday

• AV Club Party @ Mohawk for We Were Promised Jetpacks, definitely one of the best shows of the week.
  

  

• We eventually met up with Hunter and Keri, Darius stopped by for a visit and we all ended up at The Ale House for April Smith and the Great Picture Show and Fanfarlo. April Smith was just as good as I expected and we’ll have to ask Jay about Fanfarlo…

  

  

Saturday

• Off to slow start on this day… (see picture above). Hunter treated us to breakfast at El Arroyo’s and we were off…
• Met Brandy, Matt, Jordan & Jenson at Red Eyed Fly for Coffee! No Pants? Party…1st place ribbon for Best SXSW Party Name. Jukebox the Ghosttook the Best Band ribbon.

  

• We did NOT go to the Perez Hilton party…and we don’t really want to talk about it.
• ‘Til next year…
