Beyond the Red Door

Pinterested?

My mom found/gave me a set of Mr. and Mrs. chairs (one rocker, one straight legged) over a year ago and they definitely needed some work done. They were pretty old and needed quite a bit of woodwork done, since a few pieces had fallen off or were missing all together. Which is often the case with things my mom buys/finds on the side of the road*…

So, we sent one of them off to Pappaw (THE handyman) and he worked his magic and (after babysitting the chair for much longer than he expected) we picked up this:

Please keep in mind that the cushion is my job, so, with that said, it looked awesome! We loaded it in the car and brought it home…a LONG time ago. So long ago that I don’t even remember when it was. To tell you the truth, they quite possibly could have brought it to us…it was so long ago. And it has been sitting in our garage ever since, gathering dust, cobwebs and spiders…along with the mantle that needs to be refinished and a few sets of shelves that need to be painted. No. Motivation.

Then this little site called Pinterest came along:

I heard about it from my good friend Sherry (or complete stranger that I know everything about) over at Young House Love (great diy site!). Pinterest is pretty new to the internets, so you have to be invited. I requested an invite and only had to wait a week or so, but now I can send invites to anyone, so just shoot me an email if you are (p)interested. Heehee.

What is Pinterest, you ask? I could go on forever about how awesome this site is and what a complete time suck (in the most positive way possible) it is…but I will let them tell you:

“Think of Pinterest as a virtual pinboard — a place where you can create collections of things you love and “follow” collections created by people with great taste.

People use Pinterest to collect and share all sorts of things — wedding inspiration, favorite T-shirts, DJ equipment. You name it, people are pinning it.

We know you have great taste in something. Our mission is to make Pinterest the best place for you to share your taste with the world.”

So, with that said, I have gotten some much needed inspiration to tackle some home projects (well, one so far). Jay picked out a great fabric at Hobby Lobby and I grabbed some foam, stuffing and a staple gun. I would say it cost about $40 total and about an hour of our time, and this was the end result:

I’m still contemplating rather or not I should paint the chair…I just love the wood and don’t want to ruin it. Oh, and I can’t forget that we still have the straight legged chair at my parent’s house…along with some other mom-finds that will need some TLC.

And I think we are going to head back and grab some more of the fabric for some throw pillows on the couch. Anyone out there know how to sew?

Hopefully, more projects to come. I have a few on the agenda for the weekend. And to think…we still haven’t grouted the tile from this project, but the bathroom does look much better. Promise to post a picture of that soon!

*Jay picked up a leather office chair off the side of the road the other day…like mother, like son-in-law? I don’t think that’s how it goes…
