Beyond the Red Door

*Inspired By Pinterest

After looking at Pinterest and pinning things all day (and night), I started to think I should take a little bit of this inspiration and actually MAKE something. So after all the “pins” showing different jewelry storage, I got my own idea.

This took a total of 2 hours and that included driving to Hobby Lobby (finding out they close at 8pm!) and then driving to Wal-Mart (gasp! I know) since they were the only (close) place I could think that would have a decent fabric selection. And I think the total was $12 and that included a Reece’s Pieces for Jay and Twix for me. Here is what I bought:

- 1/2 yard of fabric

- 2 different types of pushpins (short decorative ones & longer, more useful ones)

- 1 long dowel

- tiny thing of paint (that I didn’t use)

Here’s what I did:

- wiped down the inside of the box (it was pretty dusty)

- measured the inside of the box and cut up a foam egg crate/mattress topper that we weren’t using (for the back and the bottom portion)

- covered the foam with the fabric and pinned it in place in the back

- I had cut these so close, that they stay in place without any attachments (but glue or a staple gun would work)

- the box has a ridge where I slid in the dowels….I just measured first, cut them and slid them in

- then I used the pushpins to hold my necklaces and slid my earrings onto the dowels (*make sure you get a smaller dowel that your earrings will fit over…I had to stretch a few of mine out just a bit to get them to come on and off easily)

And that’s that. Super easy and pretty cheap if you already have a box handy. It’s sitting on my bathroom counter right now, but I plan to hang it. I need to add something at the bottom to cover up the lumpy part of the foam/fabric and keep my bracelets contained. I don’t know if you can tell, but the foam also allowed me to stick my studs through to keep them in place. So, the only jewelry that doesn’t have a home are my rings…any ideas? I thought about attaching an upside down cupped drawer pull to the side…
